Adrienne Doig's goddesses

Popped down to Darlinghurst to take measurements in Art Centre of Sydney for our show in July, an exercise that took me about 20 minutes, then caught the bus to Paddington to see Adrienne Doig’s goddesses at Martin Browne Contemporary.

I had a nice chat with the staffer about mum and granny’s clowns, which they made out of second-hand materials in the 60s and 70s and sold in the gift shop they ran in Vaucluse. The process seems to be the same with Doig’s works, which are of different sizes and which feature the artist herself as various deities. She pairs herself up with Australian native animals, dolphins, echidnas etc. Enjoyed the show particularly as the pieces look much better in real life relative to online.

  1. Oh wow. Lovely. Each with their own unique style and character! I love the plinths. That’s really setting them off.
